Introduction
With the many creative outlets available today, video provides a powerful medium upon which our voices, our way of life and our own portrayal to the vast majority can be shown and heard from our own selves, thus empowering truth, justice and healing.
In today’s media driven world, where information is almost instantaneously available, nothing carries the impact of the video medium. It is this medium that First Nations people are grossly under-represented, leaving the door wide open to miscommunication and misunderstanding.
Running Buffalo Communications in conjunction with Cree Thunder Entertainment are proud to present Capturing The Buffalo - a workshop designed to show the power of film and television production. It is uniquely tailored to fill the under-represented gap through awareness, education, collaboration, generation and celebration. Planting the seed of community development and working towards truth, justice and healing in film is the primary goal of Capturing The Buffalo.

Industry Scan
Saskatchewan has grown from a $17 million dollar revenue industry in 1999/00 to a $75 million dollar revenue industry 2008/09 creating over 1,200 jobs. Saskatchewan boasts of the best tax incentive plans in the world to bring productions from international markets to the province.
On top of the tax incentives, Saskatchewan provides services and further incentives to produce films and television, thus boosting the current market. Places such as Saskatchewan Communications Network, SaskFilm & Video Development Corporation, Sask. Motion Picture Industry Association, Sask. Filmpool Cooperative and Sask. Arts Board all carry special incentives to boost the current market.
In 2009, SaskFilm and SMPIA released a Sector Plan research document, which critically examines the economic impact, strengths, weaknesses and the overall description of the state of the film & television industry in Saskatchewan, a province with over 70 First Nations. Many different sectors and industries have been impacted to certain degrees, except the Aboriginal sector.

Producer
Cory Generoux is currently the CEO & President of the Regina-based film & television production companies Running Buffalo Communications and Cree Thunder Entertainment. Cory is formally educated in broadcast television, of which he graduated with multiple awards and honours. Cory has had a relatively short career spanning a decade, and in that short time has garnered several prestigious awards and screenings, international recognition and continues to actively produce thought provoking, and award winning television programs and films.
As one of a few Aboriginal filmmakers in the province of Saskatchewan, Cory sat on several provincial/governmental boards and committees for multiple terms advocating and providing a voice for First Nations people. Recognizing the under-representation of First Nations people, governmental inaction and a lack of education among Fist Nations communities, he stepped down from the various boards and committees to pursue career obligations and to raise a greater awareness of an industry that has been flourishing.
Cory maintains a strong cultural identity and connection to a traditional and spiritual way of life. He is of Cree/Assiniboine/Scottish descent and comes from the Sturgeon Lake First Nation, northeast of Prince Albert, Saskatchewan.

Multi-Media Services
The world of Multi-Media marketing & Production is rapidly progressing. Since 2001 Telefilm, a funding branch of the federal government, has recognized, developed and implemented assistance to this ever expanding phenomenon. With the advent of digital cable, the line between broadcast television and internet broadcast is on the verge of becoming united, skewing a once very distant line. The same is told throughout the private and public sector, more and more the internet is becoming an invaluable marketing tool.
When the term "Multi-Media" or "Internet" is heard, people automatically think of a website being a pamphlet, or think of a PowerPoint presentation. However, it is essentially your interstitial television episode- something for people to do while your show is in re-run, your video project's "sister companion", your businesses round-the-clock marketer, a teachers aid, and the list can go on. Team that list up with a well thought out presentation (such as the proverbial PowerPoint presentation) and you got a powerful tool for success.
Multi-Media has many different uses and implementations such as:
- Website Presentation - Instructional, Educational, Presentational, Commercial, Corporate, etc.
- Print - Instructional, Educational, Presentational, Commercial, Corporate, etc..
- Design - Instructional, Educational, Presentational, Commercial, Corporate, etc.
- Interactive Presentations - Instructional, Educational, Presentational, Commercial, Corporate, etc.
- Accompanyment - Existing projects in the fields of Instructional, Educational, Presentational, Commercial, Corporate, etc.
The need for Multi-Media in todays society isn't just for vanity, it is essential, it is on our phones, in our vehicles, on our TV's and so on. A high-end video with an accompanying website, interactive CD and printable brochure will get your message or product branded with the impact it deserves.
